Larry Scott has deep roots in Burleson and surrounding areas. He was born in 1957 in Pasadena, Texas. His family moved to Crowley ten years later, and he has called this area home ever since.
Working dairies, hauling hay, and taking evening and night shifts at Winn Dixie and Buddy’s on Camp Bowie in Fort Worth are a few of his earliest work experiences. During this time, he also was a boy scout, played football for Crowley High School, and ran track. In 1975, Larry graduated from Crowley High School.
Two years after graduation, in 1977, Larry accepted a position in the railroad industry, beginning a career that would span 45 years. In that time, he earned many awards based on his professional performance. The Professors’ Award from Union Pacific Railroad was awarded to him for teaching, mentoring, and educating safety and efficiency, and the Throttle Nine Award for generating significant improvements in performance. He also earned several certifications and licenses, such as NARTE-Certified Master Technician Class 1 (Endorsement-Microwave Systems-Radar Systems) and First-Class FCC License (Endorsement-Ship Radar). Larry recently retired from Union Pacific Railroad as a senior manager. While working for the railroad, he opened his own businesses; an appliance repair/HVAC business in Burleson, and a vacation rental business in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.
Outside of his professional life, Larry has enjoyed many opportunities to volunteer in the community. For several years Larry served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Foster Children with Johnson County (CASA). He is also a volunteer for the City of Burleson. His favorite city-sponsored event to volunteer with is Santa’s Breakfast. Watching families laugh and enjoy each other’s company while they celebrate Christmas together as a community brings a special kind of joy. In addition to volunteering at city events, Larry is a recent appointee to the Zoning Board of Adjustments for the City of Burleson (ZBA).
Larry is married to Sherry Scott, who also served as a CASA for many years and currently serves on the Parks Board with the City of Burleson. You will often see the Scotts maintaining, repairing, or stocking Blessing Boxes, which are designed to provide food for those in need in our community, and can be found at several locations throughout Burleson, such as the Burleson Public Library and Centennial Park. Sherry also runs a Facebook group for the Blessing Boxes to bring awareness and coordinate with the community to ensure the boxes are being used appropriately and are well-stocked for those in need.
Larry Scott looks forward to continuing to serve the community of Burleson and putting his professional and volunteer experience to work through service on the Burleson City Council.
“As a long-time citizen of Burleson and a previous business owner, I have watched this city grow into the charming community it is today. With growth comes responsibilities: industry placement, community development, economic development, infrastructure needs and budget management. There is opportunity now to manage this growth so that we can all continue to enjoy the Burleson we love.
The task of managing this growth will require experience, knowledge, and integrity. When elected to the City Council I will use my experience to help manage this city’s growth with respect to the citizen's wishes. Burleson is a great place to live, and I am dedicated to serving Burleson.”
